History

Edmonton Masters Lacrosse was established in September of 2005 with donations of support from the West Edmonton Blues and Wizards Lacrosse Clubs. We ran a drop-in format until the end of March when evaluations were done and two teams formed for our inaugural season. Our season ran from the beginning of April till the end of July and included a refereed game every Sunday night at Bill Hunter arena and a practice/shinny most weeks. Registration was $150 per player. We had three exhibition games against the Red Deer Masters Lacrosse Association with victories in the second and third games.

A combination Edmonton-Red Deer team played in the Okotoks Masters Lacrosse Tournament in July in Calgary (because of flooding in Okotoks). We were not victorious in that tournament which featured Calgary’s rules, but we all had a blast participating and socializing.

We ran our second fall and winter drop-in on Wednesday nights at the East Soccer Centre until the end of March. We had almost 70 players for our 2006 season and formed four teams. Seventeen games were played on Sunday nights again at Bill Hunter arena. We hosted our inaugural tournament on the July 9th weekend with teams from Red Deer, Okotoks and Calgary participating. We played Northern AB rules with stick checking and Edmonton’s green team won the tournament.
